Lt. Col. Duncan "Kirk" McGeachy
1953-2008
Lieutenant Colonel McGeachy enrolled in 3rd Field Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery (The Loyal Company) on 1 February 1972, as an Officer-Cadet under the Reserve Officer University Training Programme. He was commissioned on 1 September 1972 as a 2nd Lieutenant. On 15 July 1982, he was promoted to Major and in 1983, during the royal visit of the Prince and Princess of Wales to New Brunswick, he was appointed the Guard Commander for the Honour Guard. Lieutenant Colonel McGeachy also completed the US Marine Corps (Reserve) Command and Staff College in Quantico, Virginia. Lieutenant Colonel McGeachy commanded the 3rd Field Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery (The Loyal Company) from 1998 to 2001 and from 2005 to 2008.
In September 1975, Kirk joined the staff of Jacques Whitford and Associates Ltd., where he was employed as a Senior Engineering Technologist. In this capacity, he has been involved in the construction of potash mines, and many major projects including the Point Lepreau Nuclear Generating Station, the Hibernia offshore production platform; the Market Square, McAllister Place and Harbour Station developments in Saint John.
Kirk was also a member of the Royal Canadian Artillery Association. His hobbies included parachuting, boating, camping, water-skiing, motor mechanics and reading.
Visitation is from 7pm to 9pm on Thursday and Friday from 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 8th at St. John the Baptist Parish Church (60 Broad Street) at 1pm followed by a reception at the Barrack Green Armoury.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to be made to Organ Transplant or the 3rd Field Regimental Fund.
The family will also be holding a Memorial Service on Saturday, November 15th at the Christ Church in St. Stephen at 2pm. A reception will follow at Trinity Hall. www.brenansfh.com.
