Hortense Elizabeth Hanley
1926-2010
Hortense Elizabeth Hanley of Saint John, wife of the late Daniel
Hanley, passed away on Tuesday, February 09, 2010 at Kennebec Manor.
Born at Saint John on March 2, 1926, she was a daughter of the late
Daniel and Kathleen (Dunn) Downey. Hortense worked for more than 30
years with Dominion Stores. She was a member of St. Pius X Parish,
where she was active with the Catholic Women’s League, and was
also a member of St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary. She was an
avid card player, and enjoyed regular gatherings with her family for
many years.
Hortense is survived by her son, Kevin Hanley of Saint John; a granddaughter, Samantha Hanley; sisters Grace Dryden of Saint John and Connie DeMatteo of Hamilton, Ontario; and by several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Hortense was predeceased by brothers Clem and Joseph Downey; and by a sister, Beatrice Record.
The family would like to thank the staff of Kennebec Manor for their kindness, compassion, and humour during Hortense’s stay with them.
Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 2:00 p.m. from St. Pius X Church, 316 Somerset Street. Interment will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to any charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
