Ian James MacKinnon

1936-2010

Ian James MacKinnon

Ian James MacKinnon of Saint John, husband of Joyce (Ramsay) MacKinnon, passed away on Monday, August 30, 2010 at the Saint John Regional Hospital following a brief battle with cancer.  Born at Saint John on October 6, 1936, he was a son of the late Norman and Elizabeth (McNulty) MacKinnon.

Ian worked at Ocean Steel for 39 years, retiring in 1995 as a Project Manager.  He was a member of Park Avenue United Church, the Carleton Curling Club, the Hampton Golf Club, and had served two terms on the board of directors of the Loch Lomond Villa.  He enjoyed hunting and salmon fishing, and both vegetable and flower gardening.  He was active for 35 years with the Lakewood Boys Scouts, but his greatest joy in life was his grandchildren, who were the apple of his eye.

In addition to his wife of 45 years, Ian is survived by his children, Ian E. MacKinnon (Jacqueline) of Rothesay, Colin MacKinnon (Kelly) of Saint John, and Catherine Bennett (Barry) of St. John’s, NL; grandchildren Meranda, Andrew, Jack, Rian, and Abby; brothers Norman MacKinnon (Reby) of Summerside, PEI, and Calvin MacKinnon (Nancy) of Saint John; a sister, Anne Marr (John D.) of Rothesay; and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, Ian was predeceased by a nephew, John Whitfield Marr.

Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Tuesday and Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.  The funeral service will be held from Park Avenue United Church on Thursday, September 2, 2010 at 10:30 AM.  Interment will take place in Fernhill Cemetery.  For those who wish, remembrances to Park Avenue United Church or the Loch Lomond Villa Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
