Lois Evelyn Cosman
1937-2012
Lois Evelyn Cosman of Saint John passed away peacefully in
her sleep at her residence on Monday, January 23, 2012. Born
in Midland, Kings County on April 20, 1937, she was a daughter of the
late Arthur Marven and Florence "Muriel" Chapman
(Killam) Cosman. Lois attended Provincial Normal School in
Fredericton, and subsequently taught school in Mispec, Grand Manan,
and Moncton before moving to Alberta for a short time where she taught
in Lethbridge. In her spare time, Lois enjoyed playing the
piano and listening to music, as well as teaching piano. She
was also an avid reader, but one of her greatest joys was meeting with
her friends in the Villa to chat.
Lois is survived by a brother, David Cosman of Halifax, Nova
Scotia, and a sister, Rev. Emily Kierstead (Rev. Donald Murray) of
Brookfield, Nova Scotia; nieces and nephews Lara Carrigan (Douglas)
and their children Lily and Sadie; Andrea Ritcey (Mike) and their
children Annie and Maddie; Jonathan Kierstead (Gail) and their
children Tessa, Mac, and Jake; Lisa McCully (Stuart) and their
children Alexandria and Marcus; and Jenny Kierstead (Blair Abbass) and
their children Sophia and Isabella.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Loch Lomond
Villa for their wonderful care over the years. We are also
grateful to her friends, especially Tom, for the joy they brought to
her life.
Although there will be no visitation time, relatives and
friends are invited to attend a service for the remembrance and
celebration of her life, which will be held on Friday, January 27,
2012 at 11:00 AM at the Loch Lomond Villa Chapel, 185 Loch Lomond
Road, Saint John. Interment will take place in Ocean View
Memorial Gardens. For those who wish, remembrances to the
Canadian Diabetes Association or the Loch Lomond Villa Foundation
would be appreciated by the family. The funeral arrangements
are under the care of Brenan's Funeral Home, 111
Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). Please
place online condolences and remembrances at

So sorry to hear of Lois's sudden passing. I haven't been to New Brunswick in the past few years, so I had looked forward to visiting with her when back for my 50th High School reunion next year. Now I have no family to visit at the Villa. But I will see both of you in 2013. Love, Bob.

Sorry to hear Lois had passed away. I saw her several times at the Villa and she looked really well and happy. I had planned to attend the service today but the weather doesn't permit it.

Emily - Murray and I were sorry to read about the death of your sister. I didn't recognize the name at all, but something made me read through the obituary and discovered your name. Perhaps there was something familiar in Lois' face that made me think of you. Our paths haven't crossed in many years, but I often think of you. I see you have seven grandchildren. How lovely. Mom is still attending St. David's at 95. She doesn't drive anymore, so we alternate between her church and ours. Murray is still organist at Grace Presbyterian (40 years). Claire is an organist also and is just marking time now until Murray retires, so she can take over! Steven has two wonderful children and everyone lives quite near us. I know this isn't the forum for family news, but sometime if you have a minute I would love to hear about you and your family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Sincerely, Nita and Murray

The passing of Lois has brought back many memories. If I could, I would again like to thank her lending her bicycle to me when I was in my teens. I have fond memories of Lois, and of
her parents, and also her siblings Emily & David.
