Surrounded by her loving family, the peaceful passing of Mary
Jane, 56, daughter of Ann (Callaghan) and the late Mel Patriquen,
occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Wednesday, July 25,
2012. In addition to her loving mother, Mary Jane is
survived by her devoted husband Mike Shelley and their three cherished
daughters, Catie, Casey, and Shannon. Also surviving is her
sister Kelly Patriquen and her daughter Karly; nephew Michael D.
Patriquen; niece Melana Patriquen; mother-in-law Shirley Shelley (late
Lou); step-son Joe Shelley; aunts and uncles including Sr. Nora Kelly,
Claire and Art McGuire, Mary Lou and Kevin Smith, Kay Callaghan (late
David); and several cousins. Mary Jane was
predeceased by her father, Mel Patriquen in 2005; by her brother,
Michael R. Patriquen in 2011; and by her grandparents Ronald and Agnes
Callaghan and Walter and Jean Patriquen.
Mary Jane’s chosen career was Nursing, and she
yearned to help as many people as possible with her selfless and
compassionate nature. For the past several years, she was
employed with the Mental Health Clinic in Saint John and was
passionate about psychiatric nursing. Mary Jane’s
unlimited and endless love and devotion to her family was
unsurpassed. Her family was always her number one priority
and in addition to the much-loved family get-togethers, she valued the
"special time" spent with each of her beautiful daughters
and loving husband. Words cannot adequately express to what
extent she will be missed.
A heartfelt and sincere thank you to the many doctors
involved in Mary Jane’s care and to the entire staff of 5AS
for the compassion and kindness shown to our beloved Mary
Jane.
Although there will be no visitation, relatives and friends
are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial, which will be
celebrated on Saturday, July 28, 2012 at 11:00 AM from Our Lady of
Perpetual Help Church in Rothesay, NB.
In lieu of flowers and in Mary Jane’s memory, the
family requests that you kindly consider a donation to
"Danielle’s Fundraiser". Danielle is
Mary Jane’s newest and very special friend who, at 23 years
of age and from out of town, is undergoing treatment for leukemia at
the Saint John Regional Hospital. This incredibly selfless
young woman and Mary Jane formed an immediate and special bond and
donations to this very worthy cause will assist her family with travel
and additional expenses not covered by Medicare. Mary Jane
would be elated knowing that she was instrumental in assisting this
family. Donations may be made payable to and sent directly
to Danielle’s family in care of her Mother: Susan
Parker, 15 Leslee Drive, Lincoln, NB E3B 6W7, or may be
placed and honoured at Brenan’s Funeral Home,
111 Paradise Row, Saint John, who are in care of the
arrangements. Online condolences and remembrances may be
placed at www.BrenansFH.com.

My Sincerest sympathy to the family. Mary Jane was a co-worker when i worked as an orderly at SJRH and also later at Cozy Manor SCH where I had many interactions over the years with Mary Jane placing Residents in the Special Care Home, she was compassionate about her clients and was a pleasure to work with. Nursing was surely her Calling. May she Rest in Peace.

HOPI PRAYER
Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on the ripened grain.
I am the gentle Autumn’s rain.
When you awaken in the morning hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush.
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry
I am not there, I did not die.
— Bob & Claire Feulner

Dear Mike and Famly,
I am shocked to have just learned of your terrible loss. Mary Jane and I were classmates and graduated together from St.Vincent's 1974.
I was happy when I ran into her at the SJRH in the mid 80's and learned she was full time on Psychiatry. She loved that area of Nursing and was very passionate about her practice. That was wonderful.
Having moved away from Saint John many years ago now, and not being in touch with too many, the news is just shocking.
My heart breaks for you and her children. You all will be in my prayers.I will have a Mass said here in Germantown for Mary Jane. God Bless all of you.
With Deep Sympathy,
Sincerely,
Cathy Sullivan MacDonald
