Edna Parkin
1919-2012
It is with great sadness that the family announces the
passing of Edna Velzora Parkin of Saint John, wife of the late G.
William Parkin of 60 years, which occurred on Friday, August 3, 2012
at St. John and St. Stephen Nursing Home. Born on October 29, 1919
she was a daughter of the late Beverly Samuel and Della Josephine
(Gogan) Mills.
Edna received her education at the Halifax School for the
Blind, graduating in 1937. After graduating, she was employed with the
C.N.I.B. White Wear Department in Toronto and also in Saint John. Edna
also worked at Ganong’s Candy Factory, St. Stephen, NB.
She taught several people braille. She was involved with C.N.I.B for
many years and also with the Canadian Council of the Blind Saint John
Club she held the position of Director of Finance on the C.C.B
Maritime Division. Edna owned and operated a Ham Radio which she
enjoyed for many years.
Her hobbies were knitting and sewing in her early years. She
also loved to read her braille books as well as her bible. She and her
husband Bill were members of Full Gospel Assembly for many years and
she was a deeply devoted Christian. She loved to socialize in the
company of family and friends.
Edna was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She is survived by her brother-in-law, Art (Edith) Parkin, several
nieces, nephews and cousins; chosen son, Kenneth Church; close friend,
Yvonne LeBlanc as well as many other special friends. Besides her
parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sisters, Treva and
Hazel and brothers, Evans and Don Mills.
Despite being visually impaired, Edna was a very remarkable
woman and never let anything stand in her way of a very happy and
fulfilling life.
The family would like to express their thanks to all of the
staff at St. John and St. Stephen Nursing Home, for the loving care
and compassion she received while she was in their
care.

I,first met Edna & Bill while Iwas a member of the Saint John Fish & Game Assoc. We used to help with dinners for the CNIB, I'LL ALWAYS REMEMBER Her smiles and kindness to everyone. When I used to see her I would take her hand and say ,your eyes sparkle like diamonds ,She would smile and say my name, then we would talk for awhile, SHE will be sadly missed by all those who were blessed to know her.

Aunt Edna was an amazing woman, so wonderfully loved by everyone and I swear no one's memory could compare to hers. Considering she met me probably only 5 times and thankfully the most recent was 2 years ago, she was very sharp to remember me. The first experience I remember with Aunt Edna and Uncle Billy was when I was learning to play the piano and Aunt Edna and I played together. She was an amazing woman and nothing could stop her. The funniest moment was trying to explain to her what a possum was. Trying to relate the animal to a cat was the funniest thing. She also taught me that there is no difference between green and yellow beans. For the longest time she did not know there were yellow beans. Aunt Edna was incredibly funny and hands down amazing. The world and my family will never be the same without her hillary and witty charm. She will be forever loved and missed!

Just wanted to say how saddened I was to read about Edna's passing. She and my mom, Carol Baker were great friends for many many years through the CNIB and the CCB. I have many fond memories of weekend stays with Edna and Billy when they had Mikalina. That was where I stayed when Mom went for meetings for the CCB. They may not have had children of their own but there was always lots of love. She was an amazing woman and will be missed.
