Obituary of John Gordon Scott

With heavy hearts, but with appreciation for a long and fulfilling life, the family of Gordon Scott announces his passing on Sunday, April 28th, 2024, at his home in the Carleton Kirk Lodge. Born February 18th, 1928, in St. Catharines, ON, he was the son of the late Dorothy (Gordon) Bentley and Gilbert Scott.

Gordon worked as a computer programmer for most of his life, having spent several years with Iron Ore Company of Canada, Government of Newfoundland and the Government of New Brunswick. He was instrumental in the development and implementation of automated iron ore grading/blending computer processes as well as bringing personal computers and computerized report cards to schools in NB.

Leading up to his retirement, he owned and operated an antique store in Boiestown and always enjoyed hunting for the next great find. Gordon was also a talented painter and craftsman who loved woodworking.

Gordon is survived by his daughters, Melody Scott (David) and Stephanie Goodine (Edward); sons, Leslie Scott (Sylvie) and Laurence Scott (Nathalie); grandchildren: Sierra McCann, Alison Scott, Jordan Scott, Kassandra Scott, and Kelvin Scott; and sisters, Janet Marissen (Harry) and Margaret Kraenzlein.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Marguerite Mullins; grandfather, John Gordon; step-father, Al Bentley; and his sister, Joyce Hinchcliffe (Roy).

Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (506-634-7424). In keeping with Gordon’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral services. For those who wish, remembrances to the Alzheimer Society of New Brunswick, Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides, Careleton Kirk Lodge, or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
