Greta Mackereth

Obituary of Greta Mackereth

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beautiful mother on March 19, 2024. We are eternally grateful that she passed peacefully and that she is resting comfortably now.

Greta was born July 24, 1939, in Saint John, New Brunswick to her parents Joseph William and Marie Isabelle Dugay. Despite many moves over the years, she remained a lower west sider at heart and loved taking us to visit her old haunts. Mom lived her life looking for adventures at every turn, and hearing that she decided to take a last minute trip to another province, state or country was completely normal to us. “What country is your mom in today?” was a question we often heard.

Mom lived for her family. Her children and grandchildren were her greatest joy, and she gushed daily about all of our accomplishments. Missing her eternally are her children Lee Lindsay (JP), Kim Milan (John), Barbara Cox (Rene), Katherine Johnson (Steve), Isabelle Chase (Nicolas), Royden Chase (Laura), Jane Mackereth (Brenda), and Sally Corey (Christopher). The only people she might have been more in love with were her grandchildren Sean and Ryan Lindsay, Madeline Milan, Anneka and Olivia Cox, Paul and Emma Walsh, Olivier and Caroline Oreskovic, David Chase, Sebastien Richard-Cyr and Sadie and Cecelia Corey. She will missed by so many, especially her brother and sister-in-law Gerald and Patricia Dugay and their children Michelle (Serge) and William (Nathasha) Dugay, and her first husband David Chase (Terry).

Mom touched the lives of more people than we will ever know. Her kindness radiated, and her smile lit up every room she entered. She would gladly give you the shirt off her back, and every penny in her wallet. She was a mischief maker and loved laughing at a good joke, with a cold beer in hand.

Besides her loving parents, mom was predeceased her husband Alan Mackereth, whom she loved dearly, and by her brother, our Uncle Billy Dugay.

For those that knew and loved her well, “Ride ‘em cowboy!”, and rest easy mom.
